What happens when you miss a check-in
You are always warned first. Chillswitch reminds you before anyone else is contacted, then waits through a grace period you chose, and only then tells your safety contacts.
The sequence
- Reminder before the deadline. As a check-in nears, you get a Time Sensitive reminder. Enable notifications so you do not miss it.
- Deadline passes. The countdown reaches zero. Your grace period begins.
- You are asked again. You get another warning, and the switch keeps showing how long you have left.
- Grace period ends. The first alert goes out. You choose how long the wait is: immediately, a standard wait of 30 minutes, an extended wait of 3 hours, or a custom wait of up to 24 hours.
- Your safety contacts are notified, in the order and on the delays you set. By default, all safety contacts are told together. You can tell one group first and the rest later on a paid plan.
- A follow-up goes to all safety contacts if you still have not checked in after the delay you chose.
- A vault message may be released, if you set one up and your silence lasts as long as you chose. See vault messages.
What your contacts see
An alert says you missed a check-in. Depending on what you chose to share, it can also include when you last checked in, your note, and where you set out from. It never says "emergency." See what your contacts are told.
How to stop it
Check in. If you check in during the grace period, no alert is sent. If an alert has already gone out, checking in sends a signed all-clear to everyone who was notified. Alerts are not stopped by quiet hours once they are running.
Pauses and exceptions
- A pause means nobody is told while it lasts.
- Quiet hours change when you are asked to check in, not what happens after a miss.
- The distress button skips the wait and tells your contacts immediately.
Remember
A missed check-in only means Chillswitch has not heard from you. Alerts can be delayed, filtered, or not acted on, and Chillswitch does not contact emergency services. See Know the limits.
