Quiet hours

Quiet hours are times when you do not need to check in. Your schedule picks up on its own when they end. Overnight is the most common use.

Set quiet hours

  1. Open Settings > How often you check in > Quiet hours, or tap the quiet hours button under the switch.
  2. Choose a preset, or Set my own hours and tap every hour you want to be left alone. You can choose different hours on different days.
  3. Optionally name the hours (for example, "night shift") to pick them again later.
  4. Apply them. Applying starts your clock again.

Presets include Overnight, every night (10 pm to 8 am), Overnight, later at weekends, Overnight and workday, and Overnight and school hours.

While you are inside quiet hours

The switch shows "Until [time]" and your contacts see "quiet until" instead of a check-in time. Your next check-in is due after the quiet hours end.

What quiet hours do not do

  • They do not stop an alert that is already running. Hours you set weeks ago should not be able to call off help you turn out to need tonight.
  • They do not mute alerts about other people. If a friend you look out for misses a check-in or asks for help, you still get an alert during your quiet hours.
  • They do not change what a missed check-in does. They only change when you are asked.

Limits

Free accounts have one set of quiet hours. Individual and Household allow up to six sets. If your hours would cover most of the week, the app warns you that nobody would be told during those hours. You cannot create quiet hours that leave no time when anyone is watching.

Quiet hours and windows

If your check-in uses repeating windows, quiet hours are paused, since you are only asked during the windows.
