Add safety contacts
Safety contacts are the people Chillswitch tells if you miss a check-in. Nobody becomes your safety contact without agreeing, and they hear from Chillswitch only when you go quiet.
Add someone
- Open Your circle from the dashboard or Settings and choose Add a safety contact. If you have no contacts yet, the app prompts you.
- Choose what this should do: Tell them if I go quiet makes them your safety contact, and Tell me if they go quiet offers to look out for them. You can change either half before you send anything.
- Pick how to invite them:
- Send the invite. The person taps it, installs Chillswitch if needed, and chooses whether to accept. Invitation codes work for 72 hours.
What they agree to
When someone accepts your invite, the app explains it plainly: they will be told if you miss a check-in, they will not be told where you are unless you turn that on, and they hear nothing before then. They can step down at any time.
Contacts without the app
You can also invite a contact who has not installed Chillswitch. They get a text invite and must opt in by replying with their code before Chillswitch can text them. Texting depends on your plan and on availability. See text alerts for contacts without the app.
Check that your contacts can be reached
Contacts count only once they have joined. Pending invitations show as "Waiting to accept," and reach nobody until accepted. Use the safety net check to see whether alerts would reach people. See Is my safety net working?
