Text alerts for contacts without the app

A missed check-in normally reaches contacts through the app. If a contact never installed it, Chillswitch can text them instead, but only after they agree. Text availability depends on your plan and on where it is enabled.

How a text contact joins

1. Invite them by phone number. Chillswitch opens a text so you can send the invite from your own phone.
2. The invite carries a one-time code. The contact replies YES or START with that code to opt in. Until they do, Chillswitch cannot text them.
3. In your list the contact shows as Invite sent, then SMS active once they opt in.

If the code expires, send the invite again for a new one. If a contact replies STOP, texts stop, and the app shows "SMS stopped at their request." Reply HELP for help.

What texts include

SMS is not end-to-end encrypted and is visible to the phone carriers. A text alert tells the contact that you missed a check-in. Location is never included in a text alert. In-app alerts carry stronger protection, so ask contacts to install Chillswitch when you can.

Plan limits

Texting limits depend on your plan: how many contacts you can text and how many texts go out per day. Contacts with the app are never limited. If today's texts are used up, contacts with the app are still told, and texts start again the next day.

Notes

• Chillswitch never uploads your address book.
• If a contact has asked not to be texted, they can still be invited in the app.
