Receiving an alert

An alert says someone you look out for has not confirmed. It does not say they are in danger. Treat it as a prompt to reach them.

What you see

Alerts appear under Alerts for you with the person's name and a trust label:

  • Verified: signed by the key you expect.
  • Identity changed: signed with a different key than before. Confirm with them another way before acting.
  • Unverified: Chillswitch could not confirm it came from them. Treat it with caution.

The card shows what they chose to share: "Missed a check-in at 9:00 pm," their note, and where they last were. Tap Details to expand.

What to do

  1. Try to reach them. Use Call or Text. If you saved their number on your phone, the buttons open your dialer or messages. If not, the card says so and calling is up to you.
  2. Tell the others. Tap I've seen this to let the other safety contacts know you have seen the alert, or I'll check on them to say you are taking it on, so nobody duplicates the call. Selecting either shares your name with the other contacts.
  3. Change your mind. I can't check after all hands it back so someone else can.
  4. If it looks serious, call emergency services yourself. Chillswitch does not.

Location and routes

If they shared where they set out from, the card shows it with the time and how long ago, and a warning: this is where they started, not where they are. If they recorded a route, The way they went shows a few points and a map link. It ends where their phone last reported, not necessarily where they are. Part of the route can be missing, so do not rule out places in between.

After an all-clear

When the person checks in, the alert resolves: "[Name] has checked in since. Signed and verified." If something ended the alert without a trusted check-in, the app says to check on them another way.

Primary contacts

If a primary contact was named, the alert shows who to try first and who to try next.
