Set up notifications
Notifications are how Chillswitch reminds you before anyone is told, and how alerts from people you look out for reach you. If they are off, you can miss a reminder and your contacts might be alerted by mistake.
Turn them on
- When Chillswitch asks to send notifications, choose Enable reminders. If you choose "Not now," the app warns you that you will not get a reminder before your deadline.
- If you declined earlier, open your phone's Settings, find Chillswitch, and allow notifications.
- On iPhone, allow Time Sensitive notifications so reminders can come through some Focus modes. Chillswitch does not use Critical Alerts and does not override the mute switch.
What you will receive
- Check-in countdown reminders and a warning before anyone is told.
- Alerts, all-clears, requests, and roll calls from people and groups you are part of.
- Nothing else. Chillswitch sends no marketing notifications or advertising.
Notification channels on Android
Chillswitch uses separate channels so you can tune them: Check-in coming up, Check-in due, Before anyone is told, Missed check-in alerts, and All-clears and requests.
Make delivery more reliable
- Keep Chillswitch installed and allow it to run in the background.
- Some phones stop background apps to save battery. See the Background and battery help screen in Settings, and notifications and battery settings.
- A notification action opens the app. It is not a guaranteed background check-in from a force-quit phone.
If something is wrong
The app shows a notice, "Reminders may not reach this phone," if this device cannot receive reminders yet or had stopped checking in. Your safety contacts are still told if you miss a check-in.
