Notifications and battery settings
Reminders and alerts reach you through your phone's notification system, so the phone has to allow them.
On iPhone
- Open Settings > Notifications > Chillswitch and turn on Allow Notifications.
- Turn on Time Sensitive Notifications so reminders can come through some Focus modes. Chillswitch does not use Critical Alerts and does not override the mute switch.
- Keep Background App Refresh on if you can.
On Android
- Open Settings > Apps > Chillswitch > Notifications and allow them. Chillswitch has separate channels (Check-in coming up, Check-in due, Before anyone is told, Missed check-in alerts, All-clears and requests).
- Allow background activity and remove battery optimization restrictions for Chillswitch. Android behavior varies by manufacturer; some devices stop push notifications to save battery.
In the app
Settings > Background and battery help explains the steps for your device.
What to check if reminders do not arrive
- Notifications are allowed for Chillswitch and not muted by Do Not Disturb or a Focus.
- The app has not been force-quit. A notification action opens the app; it is not a guaranteed background check-in from a force-quit phone.
- You have signal. Delivery depends on connectivity, battery, permissions, and Apple and Google's push services.
- The app does not show a "Reminders may not reach this phone" notice.
Your contacts' phones
If an alert might not reach them, ask them to open Chillswitch and allow notifications. The safety net check shows if contacts cannot be reached.
