Passcode or pattern: proving it's you

By default anyone holding your phone can press your switch. A passcode or pattern changes that. It is optional and off unless you turn it on.

Options

  • Just hold the switch. No code. Fastest, and what most people want.
  • A passcode. Four digits or more, entered every time you check in.
  • A pattern. Four dots or more, tapped in order every time you check in.

Set it up under Settings > Proving it's you.

Important: there is no reset

Your code is stored the way a password is stored, so nobody at Chillswitch can read it, look it up, or clear it for you. Once enabled, you cannot turn the feature off without providing the code. Write the code down before you rely on it, and only turn it on if holding the switch is not enough for you. The app asks you to confirm you have written it down.

Why not a fingerprint or face?

Chillswitch deliberately offers no biometric option. In many places, memorized codes have stronger legal protection against compelled unlocking than fingerprints or face scans if a device is seized.

Distress code

Once you have a passcode or pattern, you can set a second secret distress code. See the distress button and distress code.

Which phone

Checking in always needs the phone that holds your account.
